Discalced Carmelite Nuns in Malawi. A group of nuns landed in Malawi in 2001. After living for some time as cloistered nuns in Balaka and Mua they proceeded to Zomba in 2002. And they waited until blessing of the new monastery in 2003.
According to Celine OCD “One could say that the founding of the Carmel of Zomba really begun with the vocation of Sister Domina Mbiriyawanda to Carmelite life. She entered in Tindinyo, Kenya, becoming then Sr. Callista. In the 1980's Bishop Allan Chamgwera, Bishop of Zomba asked the Tindinyo has a firm commitment to a new foundation in Kisii. In 2003 there was a truly Malawian welcome for the nuns and a special Mass was celebrated in the Cathedral to mark the inauguration of the new Monastery.”
